The principle of measuring image quality using color scale

All colors are produced by the interaction of incident light, paper, and the four primary printing colors. Using the color scale, the operator can measure the light absorption characteristics of the four-color ink after printing, and then control the hue of the various colors generated after the four-color ink and its overprint.

The color values of the two primary inks after overprinting can be measured separately, namely blue, green and red. They are formed by solid-field printing of magenta, solid-cyan printing of solid yellow, and solid-product printing of solid yellow. The overprint efficiency of the latter ink adsorbed on the former ink provides a basis for judging the degree of ink overprint on the entire image.

It can measure the color percentage values of cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks in the highlight, middle and dark areas respectively. Knowing the transparent half-tone dot value of these areas and the density of ink and paper can provide the tone reproduction information of the whole printing process. This process includes printing presses, inks, paper, operators, printing plates, blankets, and other factors.

By measuring and analyzing these few defined color blocks, the characteristics of ghosting and gray balance can be marked, so that the operator can understand and control the plate making in the entire printing process in a most effective way. And printing process.

In addition to measuring the efficiency of ink transfer, color scales can also measure color. The area measured and calculated by the operator when controlling the printing press is the field or an area of known chromaticity values of 25%, 50% or 75%. Measuring the tone value of the printed image itself is not the best way to analyze the reproduction performance of the printed matter, because the tone value in the image itself is just to express the content of the image, which varies from image to image. The tone value contained in the color scale can provide a consistent reference tone dot value at any time, regardless of the printed image.

The control of the printing process is to keep the tonal value on the film consistent with the corresponding value transferred to the paper, which is a time-consuming and futile job for a printer operator operating at a speed of 1000 to 2000 inches per minute; and The color mark will streamline this process. Unless there is a problem with the color mark film itself, it can indicate the problem by only a few color points.
