Desktop-class 3D printers can help us make specific products at a lower cost, but the molding speed is not as fast as we think. For ordinary parts, it can take several hours to produce the finished product.
3D print speed setting
Analysis of current 3D printers can be roughly divided into three types of printing speeds. The first printing speed is 40-50 mm/s, the second printing speed is 80-100 mm/s, and the third is 150 mm. /s. In the market, 3D printers have already reached more than 150mm/s.
However, the high speed operation of the 3D printer results in a lower quality, and in the case of more than 150 mm/s, the print quality is significantly degraded because the consumables must follow the operating speed of the extruder to adjust the amount of extrusion.
How to set the print speed
The speed setting of the 3D printer is usually set before the 3D printing is ready, that is, when the slicing software operation is performed. For example, in Easyprint, the user only needs to click "Settings" - "Details" - "Speed" to select the printing speed selection in 3D printing, such as the first layer speed, filling rate and other settings. After the class value, you can perform the slicing work. It should be noted that once sliced, the speed cannot be modified from the software side. If it is modified, it needs to be sliced again.
Secondly, in some printers, the print speed can also be adjusted, such as the GiantArm D200, which can change the speed at any time during the printing process to achieve better printing results.
HSS boosts 3D printing speed
Neil Hopkinson, a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, uses infrared lamps and inkjet printheads instead of lasers. He used Xaar's inkjet printhead and infrared heating technology (rather than laser), the leader in inkjet printing technology in the UK, to produce parts by layer-by-layer sintering of polymer powder: the printhead delivers the material quickly and accurately to the powder bed. Then, the infrared melting solidifies the powder into a shape, and then the next layer, which is much faster than the laser sintering.
According to Professor Parkinson, the printing speed of the 3D printing technology depends on the size of the printed object, but the widget will be printed in a few seconds. The good news is that the technology will be used in industrial 3D printers, and new 3D printers are expected to be available this year, which means that consumer-grade 3D printers will also take advantage of this technology in the near future.
