There are currently three types of digital photosensitive resin plate sleeves for flexographic printing manufacturers to choose, namely: seamless plate sleeves, plate sleeves and thin sleeves. Faced with three kinds of sleeves, what choice should printing companies make? Here, we will focus on a comparative analysis of the characteristics and cost of these three types of sleeves.
1. Seamless plate sleeve
There are two types of seamless plate sleeves to choose from.
(1) There is a liner type: this type of sleeve does not require sticking plate material. Depending on the density, there are many types of pads, which can be selected according to different combinations of printing plates and substrate materials. This kind of sleeve is more suitable for screen adjustment with the number of screen lines above 100 lines / inch. Its thickness ranges from 0.185 to 4.0 inches; the minimum repeat length is 10 inches and the maximum repeat length is 48 inches; the minimum width is 12 inches and the maximum width is 69 inches.
(2) No liner type: this type of sleeve no longer requires sticky plate material. Applicable to screen adjustment, field draft and line draft with less than 100 lines / inch. Most background colors are suitable for this type of sleeve. Its thickness ranges from 0.085 to 4.0 inches; the minimum repeat length is 10 inches and the maximum repeat length is 48 inches; the minimum width is 12 inches and the maximum width is 69 inches.
2. Mounting sleeve
Plate mounting sleeve technology is no longer a new technology. Many paper processors use this sleeve. It requires a base sleeve (with or without liner), and a digital single printing plate is pasted with sticky tape on it, and then exposed and developed. Because it is imaged on the roller, it can ensure a high registration accuracy. It can be used in combination with seamless plate sleeves to optimize equipment performance.
The most common application forms of plate mounting sleeves are: 0.04 inch thick sleeves, 0.02 inch thick sticky plate materials and 0.067 inch thick digital printing plates. The disadvantage is that there are still problems with the version.
3. Thin sleeve technology
Thin sleeve is the latest technology in the flexo sleeve technology market. The production process and characteristics are the same as the seamless plate sleeve. Thin sleeves come in two thicknesses: 0.085 inches and 0.125 inches. The cost of the thin sleeve is relatively low, and it can be thrown away after being used up or damaged, and the sleeve inventory can be greatly reduced.
For users with limited repeat lengths, thin sleeves are a very good choice. Since this sleeve did not appear very long, it could not be accurately evaluated.
Table 1 lists the cost comparison of six-color jobs with an area of 1000 square inches (repeating length 20 inches and width 50 inches) when using different plate-making methods, which does not include equipment costs related to plate-making. The cost is based on the US market, so for domestic users, it is for reference only.
