Raman spectroscopy will be used for the European Mars exploration mission

The National Institute of Aerospace Technology in Madrid is a public research institution specializing in aerospace research and technology development. It plans to execute a Mars exploration mission in 2018, which will use Raman spectroscopic instruments.

The mission is led by the European Space Agency and Russia. Its goal is to detect evidence of life that may or may not exist on Mars, and to understand the history of the development of water resources on the planet.

The Aerospace Technology Institute will use a compact and efficient Raman spectrometer for Mars exploration missions. Fernando Rull is the main researcher of this project.

Once the rover probe lands on the surface of Mars, the probe of the probe will collect samples two meters below the surface of Mars. The sample will be crushed into a fine powder and studied in the rover's analysis laboratory.

"Laser Raman spectrometers will be used to analyze these samples, obtain mineral information and chemical composition, and detect possible organic compounds," said Gerald Heidt, CEO of Wasatch Photonics. Wasatch Photonics produces high-performance, high-volume Phase holographic grating.
