PE is the largest synthetic resin in the world, and it is the largest plastic packaging material. However, the lower rigidity of PE plastic bottles has certain limitations in the application of plastic bottles. PET is used in a large number of blow-molded hollow containers such as bottles, and can hold beverages such as lemon juice and fruit juices. The PET bottle produced by the extrusion blow molding method is suitable for containing juice and mineral water. Due to the wide use of hot filling technology in a variety of tea beverage and juice beverage canning production lines, BOPP hot-filled beverage bottles that can withstand high temperatures of 100°C have excellent high-temperature resistance and are much cheaper than PET bottles. The price makes it have a certain market, but its barrier property is worse than that of PET, and it can't be used for packages with high barrier requirements.

PET bottles have developed rapidly in competition with Other packaging materials (glass, PP, PE, PVC, etc.) due to their superior performance, relatively low cost, and adaptability to environmental protection. PET bottles have the appropriate stiffness, high strength, beautiful appearance, design flexibility, and good transparency are the most suitable plastic bottles instead of glass bottles. However, the inherent defects of plastic materials have made the application of PET bottles limited and developed. If PET has low glass transition temperature, shrinkage, cracking, etc. occur during hot filling; oxygen and carbon dioxide gas barrier properties are poor; and polar solvents are susceptible to corrosion. In particular, the low barrier property to gases makes them subject to restrictions in applications requiring high airtightness such as beer packaging applications. It is an inevitable direction for the development of polyester bottle packaging to improve and improve its barrier properties.
