For a while, iPhone and iPad users have been able to download the Krikey app to enjoy a range of augmented reality (AR) mini-games. Now, the company is introducing the app to the Android platform and is launching new multiplayer features.
Krikey's creator said the application is built on the AR Foundation, an SDK toolkit that combines Apple's ARKit with Google's ARCore to provide advanced AR capabilities.
The Krikey app has been available on iOS since February and will now be available in the Google Play store, which includes a new multiplayer AR tennis game. Until recently, AR was able to allow multiple users to share the same AR instance and truly implement AR multiplayer games.
The AR Foundation SDK allows Krikey to use the ARCore features such as camera conversion, plane detection and other advanced features to improve the user's augmented reality experience.
It is said that Krikey is able to connect two users by using a virtual machine and use a smartphone camera to map physical space to accurately place AR objects, allowing users in different real world locations to play together. The user then competes to get the highest score.
The app created two "twin sisters", Jhanvi and Ketaki Shriram, who have begun to use AR technology to entertain the world. Since its launch, Krikey has partnered with companies such as Conservation International and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream to create AR branded content.
The app is available for free from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
