HP firmware upgrades cause generic supplies to fail
Recently, HP has upgraded its printer firmware so that the ink cartridges produced by general consumables cannot be used on HP printers. After the general consumables complained that HP upgraded the printer firmware, consumers could not use the universal ink cartridges in the printer.
A generic consumable said: "This is a robbery. HP has introduced or activated new firmware that is used to prevent the normal use of general consumables."
HP printers affected by this firmware upgrade will display a message similar to "One or more supplies are missing or damaged" or "Ink system error" when using generic supplies. Obviously, this firmware upgrade is a timed automatic upgrade of the printer's internal settings. Consumers cannot stop or reset the upgrade by turning off the automatic upgrade system.
Another reseller also protested: "HP's move is a violation of consumer property, they should explain this behavior!" Some resellers said: "I would love to hear about HP's destruction of consumer property. What will be explained (before the firmware upgrade is clearly running well), and what compensation will be made."
It is reported that the consumables affected by this HP firmware upgrade include the HP 934, 935, 950, 951, 970 and 971 universal ink cartridge series.
