To test the effect of Tyvek® on the final product quality and shelf life, DuPont conducted a controlled experiment on two groups of fresh asparagus that were airlifted from Peru, South America to Miami, USA. The two groups of subjects were in the same air transport environment except that one group was packaged in Tyvek® and the other group did not take special protective measures. In the experiment, the product temperature, air temperature, and relative humidity at the critical nodes during the entire transportation process were measured, and a third party organization was commissioned to evaluate the product quality and shelf life. The results of the experiment showed that the asparagus with Tyvek® products was 8-9 degrees Celsius lower than the average temperature of the asparagus in the control group during transportation; in the moisturizing effect, the moisture loss rate of the test group using Tyvek® was close to zero. The control group lost 1.5% due to relative humidity loss. The difference in temperature and humidity is also directly reflected in the final quality and shelf life of the product. The quality of asparagus using Tyvek® products was significantly better, with a 40% increase in shelf life compared to the control group.
